Scranton Manufacturing unveils new truck

08.07.14

Scranton, IOWA – Clearly, Iowa Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds didn’t shovel a ceremonial clump of dirt this summer at Scranton Manufacturing for nothing.

With the groundbreaking ceremony for a 56,000-square-foot expansion barely behind us, the local garbage truck manufacturer has already unveiled a new product line.

It was announced this week that the company’s New Way® division will be turning out the first fully automated, side-loading organics collection truck of its kind in North America.

Ladies and gentlemen, meet the Roto Pac.

The Roto Pac will be the first mobile compactor with a leak-proof truck body that packs with the rotary action of an auger instead of a traditional packing panel.

The auger – which can take on food waste, grass clippings or municipal solid waste – is self-cleaning, according to the company, eliminating the time needed to clean out behind the packer ram at the end of each day.

The auger can produce up to 23,000 pounds of torque at idle speed, and is equipped with an auto reverse cycle in the event of a jam.

“The Roto Pac has amazing capabilities that will enhance the efficiency of any waste management business,” New Way® president Michael McLaughlin said in a statement.

“There is nothing else that can cross over this seamlessly to meet a community’s waste management needs,” he added.

New Way® will show off Roto Pac at Wastecon – proving that every industry indeed has a con – in Dallas from Aug. 26-28.

Scranton Manufacturing’s expansion is expected to result in the addition of 75 jobs.
